I was born and brought up in Huddersfield where my interest in architecture was kindled by the fine Victorian buildings and structures, the woollen mills, canals and railways.  I trained as an architect at Leeds School of Architecture and upon qualification moved to York to work in the British Rail's Architects Department. Following its closure in 1995 I became a Partner in the York practice of Potts Parry Ives + Young, latterly PPIY Limited.

I draw in pen and ink and paint in watercolour. Much of my work features architecture or industrial archaeological subjects, the countryside and coast of Yorkshire or figurative work.

I have had numerous exhibitions around Yorkshire, had drawings published in the Dalesman and worked with Harrogate-based author Mark Reid producing the illustrations for the books in his Inn Way and Walking Weekend series of walking books. The books cover walks in the National Parks of Northern England, the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorks Moors, the Peak District, the Lake District and also Northumberland.

I would be happy to discuss commissions etc.
